This year especially we have been given a gift of some amazing autumn days, when the sun has shone out of cloudless skies, giving us all an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and marvel at the joy of the unexpected beautiful weather.
At this time of year, as the days become shorter and ultimately colder, these moments are really special, it’s so easy to let them pass because you are busy at work, or at home. Parents with young children often seize the opportunity to take them outside, but as the children become older, or the parents return to work, these opportunities often pass unnoticed in the stress of daily activities.
However busy you are, taking a break will ultimately re-energize you allowing you to return, refreshed and ready to take on the next task.
If you have a camera-phone these beautiful autumn days provide endless photo opportunities. Forget about “selfies” focus instead on your surroundings, if you live or work near the sea, or a river the opportunities are endless. Water is a wonderful reflector, illustrating the changing moods of the weather. Walking on the beach in the autumn often means less crowds, easier parking and an ever changing seascape.
One of the joys of photography is that you are never quite sure what you have captured until you have time to examine it properly. Clouds may merely appear as unusual shapes, but then you find that you have captured billowing depths of magical colours. Around every corner, trees may be changing colour, and the milder weather often means that gardens are displaying late flowering blooms.
Every day is different and full of unexplored potential, instead of thinking about what they may have to eat in their lunch break, budding photographers are thinking about their next photo opportunity, and using those precious moments to capture something special.
